In this hands-on one-day workshop you'll create a beautiful and useful portfolio. Choosing from a variety of durable, decorative cotton fabrics you will create a portfolio with a book cloth spine, vellum pocket to hold loose papers, soft flaps to hold a standard-size pad of paper and optional elastic closure if you wish. We'll use archival glue, heat-set and dry-mount adhesives and harmonizing lining papers. Each portfolio is unique, limited only by your imagination. You'll learn basic bookbinding techniques for gluing, cutting materials and constructing neat corners. We'll combine traditional methods and materials and add some new twists to make it eas for you to continue making gorgeous portfolios at home and apply what you learn to other bookbinding projects. All skill levels are welcome. Materials fee ($25) covers: Cotton fabric, papers for liners and flaps, archival glue, book board, book cloth, heat-set bonding material, dry-mount paper adhesive, vellum for pocket and elastic. Participants will provide: scissors, 12-inch metal ruler, self-healing cutting mat (approximately 12"x 18"), craft knife, soft lead pencil. The instructors will have some tools to share with students who don't have their own.
