Ergonomics is not just an increasingly popular buzz word; it is a science that helps ease and prevent pain. Learn to identify risk factors in your environment and take steps to reduce those risks Learn practical ways to help yourself feel better and avoid pain whether you are working at the computer or in the garden, driving, writing or doing other activities.
Nancy M. Lowe is a physical therapist, certified hand therapist and certified ergonomist with a master of arts dgree in Physical Therapy from Stanford University. Lowe was instrumental in implementing coordinated ergonomics services at Kaiser Permanente San José and Gilroy Medical Centers. She launched UC Santa Cruz's departmental ergonomics assessor training, which enables university staff to make ergonomics improvements for one another and promote a safer work environment throughout the campus. With her newspaper column, Ergonomically Speaking, Lowe educated the South County on a variety of ergonomics topics ranging from gardening to computer use; from exercise to reading in bed. She is an award-winning speaker, active member and past president of Toastmasters International, Morgan Hill; and a member of the American Association of Universeity Women (AAUW) Morgan Hill.
