Jazz is one of the great Aermcian art forms, but what is jazz? Is it dixieland, swing, be-bop or all of these and more? Does it include the blues? Who and what were the shaping forces in the development of jazz and who and what are molding it today? Explore an ever-changing musical art form that is one of America's great contributions to the world.
Kay Kleinerman, Ed.D., is a scholar, writer, educator and musician with more than 20 years of coaching, teaching and consulting experience. She is a frequent guest speaker/instructor at the California Institute of Integral Studies and the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. Kleinerman has taught at UC Santa Cruz, San José State International and Extended Studies, the San Francisco Community Music Center, American Conservatory Theater and Young Conservatory. Additionally, she is an American singer/actor, stage director, music director and producer and served in senior leadership positions in several nonprofit arts and arts education organizations. She is a regular contributor to Classical Singer magazine and has also been published in the journal Gender, Education, Music and Society.
