2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Poe’s birth. Poet, short story writer, novelist, editor, and literary critic, he is known for more than his tales of mystery and the macabre, including the invention of detective fiction. His life was no less dramatic than his writing. This two part short course will look at his life and several of his works. There will be some reading (short story and several poems) to do between the first and second meetings of the course. You will receive copies of the reading at the first class meeting.
Susan McGough has a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Hawaii and taught American literature and history at the college level. An OLLI member, she volunteers her time to teach this course.
