The Ohlone Way (9/21) meets at Russian Ridge. We will make frequent stops to discuss the many native plants that were used medicinally and other important ways. Your docent will tell you about Ohlone life while you enjoy a leisurely lunch. Learn about the 10,000 years of human presence in this area: from the early Siberian immigrants through the subsequent Ohlone, Spanish, Mexican occupations to the early European settlers. This two-mile loop includes a single gradual elevation gain of 275 feet. The pace will be leisurely with many stops.

Keith Johnsgard, after leaving the university classrooms behind, Johnsgard moved to the mountains to re-embrace his boyhood passions. he has gradually reinvented himself as a naturalist, building a new library and walking daily along the ridges. And now, for nearly a decade, he has been leading moving outdoor classrooms as a mountain hike docent. His primary interests and specialties include ehthnobotany, Ohlone culture and history, earthquake geology, mammal tracking and mountain lion behavior.
